Mircea stood quivering on top of the high stool too afraid to move. The riotous villagers surrounded her. So silent now she hoped if she closed her eyes tight enough she might imagine them not there. Someone rustled, moving and cursing under there breath. Mircea almost toppled over, fixing rigidly in terror as she realised to fall would only mean to be nearer the flames they would soon light.
It was a dark day, not just for Mircea. It had looked like heavy rain all day, an almost night time sky hung low and stifling in the muggy air. The stench of death seeped into everything, the closeness of it driving people insane.
Mircea had only tried to help but there had been too much death, grief and pain in the village. When panic broke out whatever was left of reason vanished and people sought a target. So there she was, tied to the stake. Her curly black hair fell down her shoulders messily as if pointing to her enviably curvaceous shape, which did nothing for her cause amongst the women.
Mircea was not found guilty of anything. She was never accused. No one even need to know the envy that had started it. Fear held them all in it`s grasp. When the single white bolt of blistering hot lightning struck the ground behind her they stood mutely.
Rain poured over the village like the sky was tipping an ocean on them. Mircea sought to see through the water saw, each time the crowd was smaller and smaller. Struggling even to breath in the downpour she sobbed just once finally daring to look down. She was perched over fast flooding stream.
She heard a wooden door bang to her left. Still blinking away the rain she saw an elderly lady shuffle out of her small house carrying a stool .Putting the stool down beside her she climbed up and untied Mircea, shouting
"Its`God`s will"
At the remaining villagers. She led Mircea inside her small home, gave her food and told her urgently to "Go."
"Go and keep going and don`t stop till you get to a place where the people have got more sense."
Mircea fled. Hearing heavy hammering on the door of the house as she ran.
They say all the doctors she has seen agree it must have been the smoke from the flames that caused her illness but she cannot remember smelling any smoke or being burnt by any flames.
If there was any one moment when i knew i would like Vladimir Edessimun it was when i heard Mircea`s story. On his was back from England he found her. Having noticed a group of noisy children throwing things into bushes and poking it with sticks Vladimir went to look, suspecting an injured animal. He found Mircea. The villagers there thought her a simpleton and were trying to move her on. From the moment she spoke he knew it was not the case. She was someone who had been running so long she had become lost to herself. It did not occur to Vladimir that he couldn`t save her.So he did.

Acrylic and Oil Painted Portraits
An acrylic painting of actor Ben Whishaw on a postcard sized canvas. After painting my way through the myriad petal mazes of half a dozen roses over summer 2012 this painting of the side of a man`s face was areal joy to do.He is a bit more beardy in the photo.
Moody Man Painting .I recently sold this on Ebay.A lot of my painting s are available on Ebay is currently available on Ebay
Painted this quite a few years ago now.I kept wondering at that time what would a modern witch look like? What would she wear?Pink bat accessories seemed the perfect answer.Mounted on a slightly cowboy hat styled witches hat.Of course it would not be a real dead bat it would be plastic.
Pouty Elvis.Looking for a nice photo of Elvis to paint i was really surprised to find out how bad he was at smiling. The photo i used for this was really blurry but in a good way although i should have given him a thumbnail.Love the colours though.
A lot of my paintings are also available on Folksy, which is the British site for handmade and everything is in pounds, but the listing fees are a bit high so they might not always be on there.

Small Red Bloodied Witch GirlThese little witches look ceramic but are mostly cardboard and paper mache composite, which is a stronger kind of paper mache and can be sawn and sanded. This one has been covered in red resin which has dried solid plastic.Usually the drips are done with homemade gesso.

Tall Chic Punk Witch FigurineThis tall lady has aged very well and is looking somehow quite distinguished these days.
Mixed Media Witches PaintingIn an after the disaster pose, these boney witches were a bit of a' just start it' and see where it goes sort of experiment.
Whilst i was making these items i realised what it is i want from female culture.I seem more often to spot the things i do not want from it such as fashion magazines, romantic comedies, dramas, relationship shows/stories and anything at all to with cooking.
But really there are a lot of things,It`s kind of a shopping list...
I want to know what those ancient cultures were, that had Goddess`s instead of god`s.What did their Goddess`s look like? I want to see films about them.I want to know what they believed in and how there societies differed from ours. Also i want to know how the Gorgons and Amazons lived, see films about them and their culture and lifestyles. How did this female dominated society work compared to modern society, does anybody know?
For every powerful, dominating statue of a male figure i want to see a female one.I want female culture to claim those powerful and dominating characteristics so associated with men for women.
I want to see female history commemorated/celebrated/reclaimed.The story of the women persecuted as witches retold as cautionary tales which still have relevance[it did not just happen in Salem.]I want all this to be a highly visible part of mainstream culture[that men can enjoy too if they wish to.]

Witch As Rock Goddess With Aflame UpdoThis is from my Etsy shop 'about me'
I do not believe in witches or the supernatural at all.I paint witches ironically and sarcastically which i always assume is obvious but keep being proved wrong.I find painting witches to be funny. That a woman can still get called a witch today is not particularly hilarious but I choose to have fun with the ridiculous and explore the many outfits and styles a modern witch could go for....
As Goya said ;"when reason sleeps demons take flight" i think this applies when people look at women,my witch pictures are an exploration of this. The image of the witch to me simply means an unnecessarily demonised woman, quite likely completely blameless.I do not know but do not believe that there is or ever was such a thing as a supernatural witch [bitch`s definitely exist though i`ve met lot`s of them!]
The little baby Witchling sculptures lead on from the pictures.Evolved from the generic 'ladies' symbol found on toilet doors all over the world. The most basic symbol of a woman turned into a witch child.Really more vacant of 'evil' than your average tin of biscuits.
